Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design

BHC School of Design offers a fully accredited, SAQA-registered Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design — a comprehensive three-year, full-time degree (NQF Level 7).
This programme is designed to equip students with the creative, technical, and theoretical foundations essential for a successful career in interior design. It provides a thorough introduction to the industry while developing the professional skills and academic grounding needed for both workplace readiness and further study.

Throughout the three years, students are equipped to become innovative, industry-ready interior designers, capable of creating thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling spaces across the domestic, hospitality, commercial, and retail sectors.

In first year, you will gain a strong foundation in design principles, space planning, visual communication, materials, and design history. In second year, you will refine your technical and conceptual skills, tackling more complex briefs while deepening your knowledge of building systems, regulations, and professional practice. Third year focuses on preparing you for the world of work—developing your personal design voice, professional confidence, and a comprehensive portfolio that reflects your creative identity and readiness for the interior design industry.

Subjects covered in the degree include Practical Interior Design, Design Theory, Building Construction and Services, Council Submission, Critical Studies, Materials, Professional Practice, Digital Visualisation, Research Methods, and Future-Focused Design.
