COURSE OVERVIEW
Acquiring the skills needed to understand and work with lighting is essential when designing an interior. Even the smallest detail can make a space inviting or make it unappealing. Knowing how to look for and add these details is crucial not only for an interior designer or decorator, but for anyone who enjoys bringing spaces to life.
This 9-week online short course on lighting design is packed with indispensable information and is the fundamental resource that interior designers and decorators already in the industry or budding interior designers and decorators can use to elevate their lighting skills and knowledge. The course is also suitable for those at home who wish to educate themselves in lighting design and don’t know where to start.
The course covers the topics of natural and artificial lighting, the effect light can have on it’s environment and the different light fittings to start. It then moves on to the history of lighting and what we commonly name light bulbs, how we measure light and then contemporary lighting. After that the course looks at the practicalities of lighting, from where the lighting is located and what a ceiling plan is to what the requirements of layouts are. Industry involvement, communication and documentation for sourcing and installing lighting rounds off the course to ensure that every fundamental aspect of lighting is covered.
Even if you are not aware of the effect lighting can have on an interior, learning about and understanding the foundational elements of lighting design can have a huge impact on how we emote with and relate to a space. If elevating an interior to showcase its best qualities is something you want to achieve, this course is for you.
